Job Title: School-based Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Location: Yuma, Arizona
Duration: Remainder of Current School Year and Next
Overview: We are seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our school district in Yuma, AZ, for the remainder of the current school year and the entire next school year. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to provide high-quality occupational therapy services to students, supporting their individual needs and contributing to their overall academic success.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in conducting assessments to determine students' motor skills, sensory processing, and functional capabilities.
- Implement individualized treatment plans under the guidance and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to integrate occupational therapy goals into students' educational plans.
- Provide direct and consultative services to students, including therapeutic interventions, activities, and exercises.
- Support the recommendation and implementation of adaptive equipment and environmental modifications as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and therapy interventions.
- Collaborate with the licensed Occupational Therapist in communicating with parents/guardians and other relevant stakeholders regarding students' occupational therapy needs and progress.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to contribute insights and updates related to occupational therapy goals.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Valid Arizona state licensure as a COTA.
- Previous experience in a school setting is preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Understanding of federal and state regulations related to special education and occupational therapy services in schools.
