Job Description:

Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring alignment with their academic, social, and communication needs.

Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, language development, and communication skills using appropriate methodologies (e.g., American Sign Language, auditory-verbal therapy, cued speech, or total communication).

Assess students’ hearing levels, communication abilities, and academic progress to tailor instructional strategies and accommodations.

Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other professionals to support students in inclusive classroom settings.

Utilize assistive technologies (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems) to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Teach and promote self-advocacy skills to help students navigate their educational and social environments.

Monitor and document student progress, adjusting teaching methods and goals as needed.

Provide training and support to parents, caregivers, and school staff on strategies for working with deaf and hard of hearing students.

Stay current with best practices, research, and advancements in deaf education and hearing technology.

Advocate for students’ needs within the school system and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., IDEA, ADA)
Education and Certification Requirements:
