Clinical Assessment:
- Conduct thorough medical assessments of patients presenting with a diverse range of acute medical conditions and injuries.
- Collect patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and order and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays, CT scans, blood tests, and EKGs.
- Swiftly and accurately evaluate the seriousness of patients' conditions to determine the appropriate level of care.
Diagnosis and Treatment:
- Construct differential diagnoses based on clinical findings and diagnostic outcomes.
- Devising and executing suitable treatment plans for patients, encompassing prescribing medications, performing procedures, and administering wound care.
- Administering intravenous medications, fluids, and other necessary interventions to stabilize patients.
Procedural Skills:
- Execute various medical procedures commonly encountered in the emergency department, such as suturing wounds, conducting incision and drainage, reducing fractures, and performing joint aspirations.
- Safely insert and manage intravenous lines, arterial lines, and other forms of invasive monitoring devices.
- Administer local anesthesia and nerve blocks when warranted.
Patient Stabilization:
- Initiate resuscitative measures and provide life-saving interventions for critically ill or injured patients.
- Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, and radiologists, to ensure seamless and efficient patient care.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families on their medical conditions, treatment plans, and the significance of follow-up care.
- Furnish guidance on symptom management, preventative measures against future medical issues, and identification of deteriorating conditions.
Documentation:
- Maintain precise and comprehensive electronic medical records (EMRs) detailing patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Document patient histories, findings from physical examinations, diagnostic results, treatment strategies, and discharge instructions.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure crystal-clear comprehension of treatment plans and expectations.
- Deliver succinct and accurate handoff reports during shift changes to guarantee continuity of care.
Quality Improvement:
- Actively participate in initiatives focused on improving the quality of patient care, enhancing safety measures, and optimizing departmental efficiency.
- Stay current with the latest medical guidelines, protocols, and research pertinent to the field of emergency medicine.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Contribute to disaster and emergency response plans, providing aid in triage and treatment during scenarios involving mass casualties.
Qualifications:
- Nebraska PA license
- ACLS
- ATLS
- NE Controlled Substances License and federal DEA license
- Knowledge of emergency patient assessments and procedures
