Emergency Department RN Job Description
As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse, you will provide rapid assessment, critical thinking, and lifesaving interventions in a fast-paced emergency room environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform triage and prioritize patient care based on acuity
- Provide emergency nursing care to trauma, cardiac, stroke, pediatric, and medical-surgical patients
- Initiate IV access, administer medications, and manage emergency interventions
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to life-threatening conditions
- Assist with trauma resuscitations and critical procedures
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards
- Ensure patient safety and uphold evidence-based emergency nursing practices
Education & Certification Requirements
- Active Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) License (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification preferredÂ
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of Emergency Department or high-acuity acute care experience preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, multitasking ability, and critical thinking skills
