Job Description

Special Education Teacher (SPED) – Portland, CT
Pay Rate: $55/hour | Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite | Contract: ASAP – June 15, 2026

Connected Health Care is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join a highly supportive elementary school team in Portland, CT. This role is part of the district’s RISE Program (Reaching Independence Through Supportive Education), designed to empower students with Autism and varying levels of support needs to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Position Details:

  • Grade Levels: 2nd – 4th grade

  • Caseload: 6 students, each supported by a paraprofessional

  • Classroom Model: Self-contained with strong emphasis on individualized instruction and supportive transitions

  • Student Profile: Primarily students with Autism, ranging from moderate to intensive needs

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with student needs and goals

  • Deliver differentiated instruction across academic, behavioral, and functional domains

  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to ensure comprehensive support

  • Provide a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes independence and growth

  • Collect and track data to inform instructional adjustments and monitor student progress

Requirements:

  • Active Special Education Teacher Certification in Connecticut (or eligibility)

  • Experience supporting students with Autism and developmental disabilities preferred

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to create an engaging, structured, and supportive learning environment
