Schedule: Days, 5x8s, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM (No nights, weekends, or major holidays)

Position Overview:
Connected Healthcare is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist for permanent position at a multi-specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in Peoria, IL.  This is a great opportunity for an experienced Surgical Tech to work in a team-oriented, supportive environment with a focus on patient-centered care. Surgical Techs with a specialty background will cross-train to become multi-specialty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scrub in for cases according to sterile procedures, set up back tables and mayo stands, and assist the surgeon during surgery.
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are prepared and available according to surgeon preferences and preference cards.
  • Maintain sterile technique during procedures, assisting in passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and other supplies to the surgical team.
  • Clean and prepare the operating room before and after procedures, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and properly stored.
  • Assist with surgical specimen collection and notify the circulating nurse regarding specimen source.
  • Assist with counts of surgical instruments, needles, and sponges before closing the incision and assist in sterile dressing post-procedure.
  • Assist with circulating duties under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Precept students and new employees, acting as a resource for clinical personnel.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest surgical equipment, trends, and techniques through in-service programs.
  • Adhere to patient safety standards, aseptic techniques, and guidelines from AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses) and AST (Association of Surgical Technologists).

Qualifications:

  • At least 2+ years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Experience in a multi-specialty setting is preferred; willingness to cross-train in various specialties (General, Orthopedics, Plastics, Gynecology, ENT, Eye, Urology, etc.).
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in at least 5 surgical services.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of surgical instruments and equipment, with familiarity of surgeons' preferences.
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure and in emergency situations.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is not required, but preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and patients.

Working Environment:

  • Surgical suites with limited exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature extremes.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, with appropriate safety protocols in place.
  • Potential exposure to latex products.
