Job Description
- Provide specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students to help them achieve their academic and social goals.
- Assess students’ needs, develop individualized education plans (IEPs), and implement effective teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other educational staff to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
- Use adaptive technologies and braille resources to facilitate learning and independence for students.
- Monitor and track student progress, making necessary adjustments to teaching strategies to meet students' needs.
- Conduct orientation and mobility training to improve students' spatial awareness and daily living skills.
- Serve as a resource for students, families, and school staff on visual impairment and related accommodations.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field with a focus on Visual Impairments.
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is required.
- Knowledge of Braille and other assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting is preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
