Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) - Abington, PA

This is a 30-week contract position with competitive compensation up to $65/hr based on experience. Job Description

  • Provide specialized instruction and support to visually impaired students to help them achieve their academic and social goals.
  • Assess students’ needs, develop individualized education plans (IEPs), and implement effective teaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other educational staff to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
  • Use adaptive technologies and braille resources to facilitate learning and independence for students.
  • Monitor and track student progress, making necessary adjustments to teaching strategies to meet students' needs.
  • Conduct orientation and mobility training to improve students' spatial awareness and daily living skills.
  • Serve as a resource for students, families, and school staff on visual impairment and related accommodations.

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field with a focus on Visual Impairments.
  • Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is required.
  • Knowledge of Braille and other assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
