Job Description

Imaging Supervisor - Ultrasound 
 

The Ultrasound Supervisor provides quality clinical services according to imaging practice standards under the direction of a radiologist or supervising physician. The Ultrasound Supervisor will ensure state of the art imaging using ultrasound. Conveys a positive and professional working environment for staff and physicians, shows initiative to stay abreast of current technology, supports self and others in professional growth. Assists with the management of Ultrasound operations, acts as a resource to other technologists and Ultrasound students to ensure: optimal department functions, safe patient care practices, according to hospital and department policies and procedures. Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition. Demonstrates, develops and assists in continuous performance improvement within imaging services in order to maintain optimal quality patient care. Demonstrates leadership and independent judgment necessary to support an effective work environment.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS BY DEPARTMENT/SPECIALTY:

 

  • Participates in patient care.

  • Conduct themselves in a respectful and professional manner in all interactions using Hutchinson Regional Medical Center’s

    Mission Statement and Core Values as a guide.

  • Ensure proper patient identity by checking two forms of identification per hospital policy, and confirming physician orders.

  • Leads and participates in various levels of committees, meetings and continuous quality improvement.

  • Effectively communicate, mentor and develop new staff.

  • Demonstrate exceptional instruction and mentoring to imaging students in clinical training.

  • Identify and report issues and concerns to effectively solve problems.

  • Show interest, and actively participate in Process Improvement projects, both departmentally and hospital wide.

  • Be able to collaborate with others in a team environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

  • Demonstrate an ability to effectively listen and communicate with medical professionals, students, patients and families.

  • Show accountability through adherence to all hospital policies referenced in the employee handbook, such as but not limited

    to attendance, dress code, etc.

  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of

    Protected Health Information (PHI).

  • Serve a population newborn through geriatric.
     

  • Demonstrate competency to perform exams or procedures in multiple Ultrasound areas (i.e. Diagnostic, Abdomen, OB/GYN and Vascular).

  • Demonstrate competency to perform Diagnostic Radiography if applicable.

  • Effectively communicate and mentor staff technologists.

  • Possess strong leadership skills, and help create a team atmosphere within the department.

  • Maintain annual competencies per hospital protocol.

  • Performs monthly rounding with assigned staff.

  • Effectively utilize resources and time.

  • Train and educate infection prevention best practices specific to sonography and patient safety.

  • Demonstrates competency to perform exams or procedures in Ultrasound.

  • Executes training in US and additional areas as assigned.

  • Responsible for completing competency checks on Ultrasound during training and annually.

  • Coordinators with Director and Manager(s) regarding staffing.

  • Maintains and performs ACR Accreditation Quality Testing and Submissions.

  • Assist Director and Manager(s) with maintaining and reviewing policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate with Radiologists on protocols and procedures.

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Medical Sonography.

  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or education related field. REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Meets the required license/certifications required for the modalities they provide needed for patient care within the organization.

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)

  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)

  • Credentialed in Abdomen (AB) and Obstetrical and Gynecology (OB/GYN)

  • Healthcare Provider BLS from the American Red Cross within 90 days of hire.

    PREFERRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: ACR and IAC accreditation
